MOST people would refuse to visit war torn Palestine even if you paid them, but 21-year-old Molly Tresadern has volunteered to go there to help young people.

From January, the South Cerney resident will spend 12 weeks teaching English and CV writing skills to children in the Palestinian territories.

A ceasefire has just come into effect in the area following another outbreak of fighting between Israeli troops and the Palestinian government Hamas, which claimed more than 150 lives.

Molly, who currently works in a charity Christmas card shop, will be one of 14 volunteers taking part in the scheme, which is organised by the charity International Service.

She said: "When I saw that the fighting had broken out it did make me nervous, but I trust the programme to protect us.

"Also, we are going to be in the West Bank near Jerusalem, rather than the Gaza strip, so there won't be as much risk of being caught up in anything dangerous."

She added: "I had a lot of mixed reactions when I told people I was going out there.

"My dad has been encouraging, but some people have told me I'm crazy to be going there."

Molly graduated from Durham University with a degree in politics this summer, and said she would like to make a career in charity.

She decided to volunteer for the trip to Palestine after hearing about it from a friend at university.

"There is a lack of education and a lot of unemployment among young people in the Palestinian territories, so I just want to do something to help," she said.

"Also, it's a really interesting part of the world and it's the kind of place that you would not normally be able to go to and immerse yourself in.

"It's also an area people have a lot of preconceptions about because all you see in the news is the violence and fighting, so I am hoping to see what everyday life is really like for Palestinian people."

Molly is hoping to raise £800 for International Service, which helps developing countries, before travelling to Palestine.

She is taking part in a sponsored 10k run in Kingston, London, on December 2 to raise money.
