BEAUTIFUL Abi Owen has died of a brain haemorrhage aged just 12.

Her heartbroken mum, Kelly, has spoken of her shock at her daughter's sudden death on Sunday.

The bubbly Cleeve pupil was in a coma for more than three days until doctors said there was nothing more they could do for her.

Kelly said the family – including dad Mark and siblings Jennifer, 10, and Joe, five – had been left numb by their sudden loss.

The 36-year-old, from Bishop's Cleeve, said: "Abi was as fit and healthy a young girl as you could imagine. It is just so unexpected. We are struggling to come to terms with what has happened.

"We are told this is one of those terrible things which she was born with and could have struck her at any time.

"It's something you might read about but you never expect it to happen to your own daughter. It's so hard to accept."

Kelly said many people would remember Abi's warm personality. "She used to light up a room as soon as she walked in. She was always thinking of other people ahead of herself and looking out for her younger brother and sister."

After being struck by the haemorrhage last Wednesday night, Abi was taken to Bristol Children's Hospital, where she remained on life support until Sunday. Doctors then told her family that there was no more they could do for her.

Since her death, messages of condolence have flooded in to the family and floral tributes have been placed at the school.

Kelly added: "All the amazing messages have helped us.

"We knew Abi was well-liked, but we had no idea what a popular girl she was."

Friends posted their own messages on Facebook.

One said: "School won't be the same without your smile."

Another wrote: "I'm putting some flowers down for you at the school.

"It's going to be weird knowing that the last time I saw you was walking through the maths corridor and you said hey to me :( sleep tight Hun."

The family are now planning ways of remembering Abi.

Details of her funeral will be announced later this week.

A fundraising site has been set up in Abi's memory in aid of the Bristol Childrens' Hospital. It's only been active for 24 hours and has already raised over £2k. It's a lovely tribute to a very special young lady, so please donate if you can: http://tinyurl.com/am2exzp Thankyou. RIP Abi xx.
