A BOOTCAMP fitness trainer will carry the equivalent weight of the oldest member of his class as he takes on the Cheltenham Half Marathon.

Lucian Mindrilla offered to carry eight-and-a-half stones, the weight of Margaret Dignum, 69, a member of his British Military Fitness bootcamp, to encourage her to sign up for the 13-mile slog on September 15.

Lucian, 31, a former company commander in the Romanian air force, who now lives in the Gloucester Road area of Cheltenham, said: "Our group trains in Pittville Park four times a week and Margaret is nearly always there.

"She had a largely sedentary life before joining us.

"She's really an inspiration to me.

"I told her I thought she should do the half marathon and said if she signed up I would do it carrying a sack."

The pact has spurred on more than 20 members of the class to take part in the event, calling themselves Margaret's Warriors.

They will all be raising money for the Midlands Air Ambulance and have a target of £800.

Lucian, a married father-of -one, added: "A lot of members have been inspired by her.

"I've run lots of half marathons in the past but none so meaningful." Margaret said: "When Lucian challenged me to take part in the half marathon, I didn't think twice," she said. "I can't wait to see Lucian doing the hard work for a change." To sponsor the team, visit justgiving.com/Margaret- Dignum.
