GLOUCESTER actors take on one of the world's most popular musicals next week.

Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music will be performed in all its glory at Gloucester Guildhall from Monday for six nights and one matinee by Gloucester operatic and Dramatic Society.

With such timeless songs like Climb Every Mountain, My Favourite Things and Edelweiss, it's no wonder the musical made famous by Julie Andrews is so popular.

It was brought back to the forefront of popular culture by TV's search for an up and coming singer to play the part of Maria in How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria.

Tetbury-based Connie Fisher won the talent contest and went on to achieve success on the West End stage and beyond.

Performances of the family favourite take place at 7pm with a 2pm performance next Saturday.

Tickets cost from £11. Call 01452 503050.
