Lily Allen's nativity scene has proved controversial

Pop star Lily Allen has been criticised for a "disrespectful" recreation of the nativity at one of her concerts.

The singer and songwriter, who lives in Cranham, is said to have parodied a traditional nativity scene at a packed sold-out O2 Academy in Brixton, south London.

Wearing a blue minidress and white stiletto heels and a gold hair accessory which looked like a halo, the 29-year-old performed her song Sheezus, while sitting in a straw-covered manger

Her back-up dancers were dressed as a traditional donkey, a Christmas cracker and a gift. The stage was illuminated with dozens of giant, lit-up baby bottles and Lily was joined by the Capital Children’s Choir.

Conservative MP Martin Vickers said: “This could be extremely offensive to many Christians.

“It is important that all religions are given the respect they deserve and I can certainly understand why some Christians believe their deeply held views are being squeezed out.”

Stephen Green, from Christian Voice campaign group, added: “It is tasteless, it is disrespectful and it is crass.”

If people can't take a damn joke and going to get upset over something as silly as this then they need to grow thicker skin and stop being whiney cry-babies!

Whether right or wrong at least it's not denying the Christmas story exists, unlike many people these days who prefer to call it things like "the winter holiday" and leave out the whole Christian message for fear of offending a small minority who truth be known probably couldn't care less anyway!

I'm a Christian, and I'm not in the least bit offended by this. There are far worse thins to get worked up about, people are hungry and living on the streets. I suggest any "outraged" Christians out there should focus on that instead, I'm sure that's what Jesus would be doing.
