EBOOKS are not killing the trade of the printed word was the verdict of staff at Cheltenham Literature Festival's book tent.
Waterstones' on-site shop store manager Joanna Hobbs said: "It's been really encouraging to see that people still love books – and love them as artefacts, things to cherish. Having a signed book is one thing you can't replicate electronically."
As testament to this, Roger Denbry, 48, from Cheltenham, has bought more than 20 books, to add to his still unread stash from last year.
But Alice Wyndham, 78, from Stroud, said she had been holding back on the printed purchases, even though she says she "hates" e-books.
