CHELTENHAM Racecourse has been nominated for a prestigious award for its Olympic Torch celebration in May.

The Racecourse Association has also put Prestbury Park on the shortlist for a management exchange programme, a joint entry with York racecourse.

Ian Renton, regional director Cheltenham and the South West for Jockey Club Racecourses said: "We are delighted to be shortlisted in two categories.

"This is a great reflection on the team we have here and the hard work they put throughout the year for both racing and non-racing events."

The Olympic Torch celebration featured Zara Phillips riding her horse Toytown into the racecourse on May 23.

It was the climax of the Torch's journey through Cheltenham which saw thousands of people line the street as Olympic fever spread.

Zara, the daughter of the Princess Royal, won a team eventing silver medal in the London Olympics.

Cheltenham Racecourse will find out if it has won in the Events and Operational Excellence categories at the RCA Showcase Awards on Thursday, November 22.
