Rowan's £910,000 repair

In true Mr Bean style, actor Rowan Atkinson got into a scrape that even his alter-ego, the wily Edmund Blackadder would have found impossible to overcome. Back in 2011, the much-loved comedy actor had what proved to be a very costly shunt in his prized motor. Speaking to Classic & Sports Car magazine recently, Rowan told how he'd fractured his shoulder blade in the crash in Cambridgeshire – and his McLaren F1 supercar was almost a write-off. McLaren's Special Operations division took four weeks to estimate how much it would cost to repair the injured F1 – £910,000 to be exact. As McLaren F1s today still fetch well into the millions – it was deemed a repair job, and so the insurance company paid out, making it the most expensive insurance pay-out ever recorded in Britain.
