HE may only be four years old, but this young actor already has an advantage over his peers – a great stage name.

Silas E Porter will tread the boards at the Everyman Theatre on February 6 as part of a one-night-only performance of Puccini's opera Madam Butterfly.

The talented youngster, who goes to Oakwood Primary School, will play the lead character's son when the Grand Opera of Belarus comes to town.

The operatic organisation contacted the Everyman ahead of its arrival in Cheltenham because it needs a young boy to play Madam Butterfly's child at each venue it visits.

Silas's dad John, 34, described Silas's chance to be in the opera as a "great opportunity".

He said: "The Everykid group thought Silas would be good for the role because he is the right size and he is a brilliant actor."

Puccini's opera tells the story of a trusting Japanese woman who catches the attention of an American officer.
