THE Cotswold East cricket project based at Fairford Cricket Club has been recognised nationally for its work on the Chance to Shine campaign.
Cotswold East was awarded the Project of the Year award at the Brit Insurance Annual Achievement Awards, held at Lord's Cricket Ground.
Chance to Shine is the Cricket Foundation's charitable campaign to educate two million state school children through cricket by 2015.
The award judges were impressed by how the project generated greater activity and increased awareness of Chance to Shine and the benefits it brings to schools, cricket clubs and the community. They also praised the success that this project has had in convincing girls that cricket is a game they can play and enjoy.
The Cotswold East project was presented with the award by former England fast bowler Devon Malcolm, at the star-studded Lord's event.
Collecting the award for the project, David Taylor said: "We and all the other coaches are here to bring children into the game and I am very grateful and appreciative that people are recognising the work that we do."
