THERE was a rush of goals in the second half as Charlton Rovers Reds progressed in the Ted Croker Cup.

The first half ended goalless as both teams cancelled each other out, but the second was a different story as the Rovers Reds started to spread the ball around the pitch.

Tommy Brookes-Holder set Chisom Obi free on the right wing, and he bounded past two defenders and cut the ball back for Jake Budenis to swivel and smash the ball home to put the Rovers Reds into the lead.

Almost immediately after the kick-off Joe Perry played a perfect through-ball to Budenis on the left. As the Baros goalkeeper advanced Budenis calmly passed the ball into the corner of the net to double the lead.

A third goal arrived within a minute. Good work on the left by Joe Edwards found Obi in the penalty area, and he beat one defender before cutting the ball back to Brookes-Holder.

His first touch was perfect, taking the ball away from his marker to allow him space to thump the ball in.

Soon afterwards Rovers were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the Baros penalty area when Edwards was fouled. Up stepped James Timony to smash a trademark free-kick into the top of the Baros net.

Goal number five came from identical circumstances, as a free-kick on the left provided Timony with the chance to curl the ball in.

The final goal arrived when Brookes-Holder created space for himself in his own half. His instant pass found Benton sprinting on the right wing, and he bore down on the Baros goal before firing an unstoppable shot into the top of the net.
