Leckhampton R Cheetahs U-12s 2 Leckhampton R Sharks U-12s 3
TWO stunning late goals from Vittorio Rogazzo and Jamie King were not quite enough for Cheetahs as they were edged out in a thrilling derby encounter at Naunton Park.
Both teams had early chances, with Cheetahs' goalkeeper Ben Lawrence making a brave save at the feet of a Sharks' forward.
While at the other end, Harry Locke latched on to a defence-splitting pass from Hal Richards but was denied by keeper Ben Partridge.
Cheetahs had the ball in the net midway through the half, only to see it ruled out for offside, and Partridge was again called in to action to save from a great cross by Matthew Gilchrist.
Sharks always looked dangerous on the break, and took the lead with a fine finish that gave Lawrence no chance.
Jay Morris went close to an equaliser after a mazy run, but both teams had chances before half-time, which Sharks reached 1-0 ahead.
But the pressure finally told as two quick goals gave Sharks a seemingly comfortable 3-0 lead with ten minutes to go.
To their credit, Cheetahs refused to give in and were rewarded when King latch on to a clearance to smash an unstoppable shot into the roof of the net from 30 yards.
And 3-1 quickly became 3-2 when leading scorer Rogazzo was sent clear of the Sharks' defence and coolly lifted the ball over the onrushing Partridge.
The goal was soon followed by the final whistle, and not an equalising third unfortunately for them, with Sharks running out narrow winners in a game that was a credit to both of the Leckhampton teams.
