IF you believe the rumours you have got 24 hours left on earth.

The Mayan calendar finishes one of its great cycles this month, which has fuelled countless theories about the world ending tomorrow, December 21, at 11.11am.

So if the theories are true, how would you spend your last day on earth? With loved ones? Doing something you have always want to do?

We asked people in Gloucestershire what they would do.

Charlie Ross, from Gloucester, turns 20 tomorrow, making the day all the more poignant.

He said: "I would most likely spend my last hours with family and friends.

"I would try and speak to all the people that I care about and go out on my birthday with a 'bang'."

Steve Nobes, 24, from Gloucester, said: "My last day on earth I would try and live out as much as possible as quick as possible. I would spend a bit of time with the family."

Joe Banyard, 24, from Gloucester, said: "I would spend my last day on earth with loved ones eating all the cheesecake I could take and listening to The Beatles."

Ami Holder, 24, from Bishop's Cleeve, said: "I would open my Christmas presents and have my Christmas Day I think. I would just pull the whole thing forward. I'd want to go and see friends, and have a good time."

Emma Perry, 22, from St Paul's, said: "If I had enough time I think I'd just make sure I spend a lot of time with friends and family. I'd eat all the crisps in the world, roast dinner, anything with gravy."

Jason Larney, 41, from Cheltenham, said: "I'd go on a big shopping spree, and just buy everything that you haven't got, and just enjoy your life."

Meanwhile, Mark Gifford, director at the ASHA Centre, a peace sanctuary based in Flaxley, said: "On December 21 2012, for the first time in 25,771 years, the Winter Solstice sun will rise in alignment with the galactic equator at centre of our galaxy.

"This was an event the ancient Maya were keenly tracking. It was deemed so important by them that it even denoted the end of the Mayan calendar. Many people have wrongly concluded that because the Mayan calendar ends, this date was being proposed by the Maya as 'The End of the World'."

Light a few more candles, drive at 150MPH on the M6, and hope I enjoy the evaporating moments near the Lake District.
